First, The Wilds is a private, non-profit safari park and conservation center on more than 9,000 acres. We were by a swamp. You sit in the back of a pickup truck (on seats) and drive right up to Rhinos, Giraffes, camels, zebra just to name a few. We could see Pere David deer, Trumpeter Swans, Bison, Rhinos, and Sichuan Takins from the deck. A yurt is a nomadic-style structure made of canvas stretched over a wooden frame. They have a lodge, cabins and yurts. The food is very good, the accommodations are great and very relaxing. Just fly into Columbus, Ohio and then its an easy 1 1/2 hour drive to Cumberland, Ohio.The Lodge is another option for staying at The Wilds.

Due to COVID-19 precautions, The Wilds has enacted various social distancing measures at both our lodging facilities and dining areas. All yurts fit two adults (21 and over). The Wilds is easy to get to. 12 seat dining room table. The Wilds is the perfect destination for couples (there were three couples celebrating their anniversaries when we were there), girls- or guys- only trips, and, if you stay at The Lodge, it is perfect for families, too!Smokey Pork Chop with a Honey Sauce served with a Couscous and Black Bean Salad; White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake; Southwestern Steak Fajitas with Pico de Gallo and Cilantro Cream Sauce; Strawberry and Brownie Trifle.Our dinner (served between 5 – 7pm every night) started off with a crudités platter and then had a choice of four entrees and three desserts. The time slot that we had booked ahead of time for the safari to see the animals at the Wilds was slated for 12 pm. A great hidden gem just east of Columbus.My husband and I recently went to The Wilds near Zanesville, Ohio and stayed in the Grand Yurt on Nomad Ridge. The Lodge overlooks a lake that, when you rent The Lodge, you have exclusive access to along with kayaks and canoes.The Wilds combines science, education, hands-on experiences and one-of-a-kind adventures like safaris, zip-lining, horseback riding, and fishing into a 10,000 acre safari park and conservation center. Nomad Ridge is comprised of 11 yurts situated atop a ridge near the Wilds’ visitor center area. Like I said, glamping is the only kind of camping I would ever do, and what’s great about it is that you don’t have to travel overseas to go on one. Each yurt contains a private bathroom with shower.

It was amazing to hand feed a giraffe and look a rhino right in the eye. Additionally, lodging facilities will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected in between guest stays. A yurt is a nomadic style structure made of canvas stretched over a wooden frame.

Mixed feelings about this hotel. Only showers, no bathtubs. Room for pack n plays in every room if you bring kids. !My wife and I spent the weekend in a yurt, 2 nights, and had a great time. It had an incredibly comfortable king size bed, a keurig coffee maker, very nice bathroom and shower. Very depressed by the fact I overpaid to stay in a swampside cabin and didn't see one animal. Words really can't describe how magical The Wilds is and we cannot wait to go back.

We opted to take a Wild Side tour in addition (in the back of a pickup truck) and that is highly recommended as well. They have a lodge, cabins and yurts. The Wilds has 9 standard yurts and one Grand yurt. Wild Northumbrian has four Mongolian Yurts set in beautiful individual secluded sites, a unique handcrafted Shepherds Hut, an antique original Shepherds Hut, a beautifully crafted wood cabin Swallow Hut and our totally unique Tree House Yurt. Very hilly drive we were all a little car sick by the time we reached the cabin. Back at school taking science pre-reqs. The Wilds hosted us in a Premium Yurt at Nomad Ridge. Checkin was fast and very Friendly. Skylight for star- and moon-gazing Depending on the day, you’ll be able to feed giraffes, rhinos, or even observe a medical procedure. The park ranger was nice and informative.
