Take the sky lift instead and do the amusements in town.We are sorry that you found our facilities outdated once you arrived, we have been working very hard over the last 5 years to update as our finances allow. Especially riding in the Ober cable car. The aquarium still stands the condition of the animals however is unknown. Don't be fooled by its cheap prices, this is not a nice place to visit. Fast-moving fires tore through Gatlinburg, Tennesee last night, forcing the evacuation of 14,000 people and burning at least 250 structures.
The lift is historic and installing a modern lift would ruin its appeal to many.Maury County Office of Emergency Management Director Tom Blackwood was quoted in the Columbia, SC paper: “the Gatlinburg Sky Lift was also damaged in the flames, and the famous ski lift’s cable could potentially snap causing damage to surrounding structures.”Video of top terminal area … platform is ashes, and there was enough fire to burn off all the paint from the structure …News reports today say Boyne hopes to reopen mid to late spring, they are still investigating the extent of damage (and a repair/replace question) … there was apparently heat damage on the upper portion of the lift in addition to the rather obviously damaged top terminal. It’s a Riblet though, and there are Riblet parts out there …Fill in your details below or click an icon to log in:
I guess if you're desperately trying to entertain your kids it may be okay but be prepared to pay for everything. Even after you pay the $13 for the sky ride, you have to buy another ticket to ride further up to the scenic overlook. PLEASE NOTE: As of Friday, July 10, Masks are Required Indoors as Mandated by Sevier County Officials based upon CDC Guidelines. They haven't updated since the 1970s and the aerial lift isn't nice because they cram as many people in as possible.
We are also sorry that you felt over charged for our tickets, we do update our prices every few years and work to keep them competitive to other attractions in Gatlinburg.First off I wish we had known to go to the station in downtown Gatlinburg and ride the tram up and experience the "park". The Big Sky Gondola, Spillway, High Campbell, King Pine, Spruce Peak, Challenger and now the Sky Lift. They don’t want to replace it with a new lift. We ended up wasting a ticket when the tram became too full and a member of our group decided to just drive back down the mountain and meet us. Food & drinks were over priced and the whole thing looked a bit tired. Alot of fun for everyone. We are glad you enjoyed Ober Gatlinburg's Aerial Tramway and Scenic Chairlift, they both have beautiful views that change throughout the year. Ride up to the OBER was scary. The tramway was completed August of 1973 and is now celebrating it’s 47th anniversary having carried MILLIONS OF PEOPLE to Ober Gatlinburg! The tram ride up was nice and had beautiful views, but besides that nothing about this place was enjoyable. We are also sorry that you felt over charged for our tickets, we do update our prices every few years and work to keep them competitive to other attractions in Gatlinburg.Very nice experience.
